Information We Collect

We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so–for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, or to make our Services better.

We collect information in two ways: if you provide information to us; and through technology like cookies, which may collect certain information automatically. Let’s go over the information we collect.

Information You Provide to Us

It’s probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us directly. Here are some examples:

  • Basic Account Information: We ask for basic information from you in order to set up your account. For example, we require individuals who sign up for a Bones & Chews account to provide username, email address and password–you can’t get around that one! You may provide us with more information–like your address–to unlock additional Bones & Chews functionality, but we don’t require that information to create a Bones & Chews account.
  • Transaction and Billing Information: If you buy something from us–for example, dog treats–we’ll collect information to process your payment and ship your order. This may include your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information, and contact information like your phone number and email. We keep billing information to maintain records per IRS rules.
  • Content you Provide: You might provide us with content like pet photos to include in a custom product order. If you do, we generally only keep that content for as long as we need to in order to serve your order, or to promote the custom product that uses your content.
  • Communications with Bones & Chews: You may also provide us information when you respond to surveys, communicate with our Customer Service team for help, or message us on social media. When you communicate with us, we collect information about your communication and any information you choose to provide. We use that information to improve our products and services and respond to you.

Information We Collect Automatically

We also collect some information automatically:

  • Log Information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, like your IP address, device type, unique device identifiers, browser type, browser language, operating system, mobile network carrier, and the date/time of your visit. We use log information to provide, understand, and improve our Services.
  • Usage Information: We collect information about your interactions with our Services. This includes clicks, taps, views, purchases, and other actions you take on our Services. We use this information to provide features, content, and recommendations that are most relevant for you.
  • Cookies: We use cookies to operate and provide our Services, improve your browsing experience, understand how you interact with our Services, and tailor advertisements. Cookies are small text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Cookies allow us to collect technical and navigational information, such as browser type, time spent on our Services, pages visited, and language preferences. You can control how websites use cookies by adjusting the cookie settings in your browser. Some cookies we use are strictly necessary for our Services to work properly, while other cookies allow us to analyze how well our Sites and Services are performing and to display content we think would be relevant to your interests.
  • Pixel Tags/Web Beacons: We use pixel tags and web beacons, which are tiny graphic images, on our websites and in our emails. They help us deliver cookies, count visits, understand usage and campaign effectiveness and determine whether an email has been opened or acted upon.

  • Provide, operate, and improve our Services
  • Understand you and your preferences to enhance your experience and enjoyment using our Services

  • Personalize content and experiences, target offers and ads, and measure the effectiveness of promotions

We may aggregate and/or anonymize personal information. Aggregated and/or anonymized data is not considered personal information and does not identify you specifically. We may use aggregated and/or anonymized data for any purpose, including research, analysis, reporting, and enhancing services.

Sharing Information

We do not sell personal information about you to third parties. We may share the types of personal information we collect as described in this Privacy Policy in the following circumstances:

Service Providers: We work with third party service providers to provide website and application development, hosting, data storage, analysis and other services related to Bones & Chews. These third parties may have access to or process your personal information as part of providing those services for us. Generally, we limit the personal information provided to only what is reasonably necessary for the third party to perform these services. We also impose contractual obligations on service providers to safeguard the security and confidentiality of personal information they process on our behalf.

Business Transactions: We may purchase other businesses, sell some or all of our assets or services, or otherwise transfer part or all of our business. Personal information about you will generally be transferred as part of the transaction. We will require the buyer or acquirer to honor the commitments in this Privacy Policy, and where required by applicable data protection laws, will secure your consent for the transfer of your personal information.

Legal Compliance and Security: It is possible that we will need to disclose information about you if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process. We may also disclose your information to investigate suspected fraud, harassment or other violations of our Terms and Policies and applicable laws. Disclosure may be required to protect the safety, property, or other rights of us, our employees, our customers, or others.

With Your Consent: We may share some personal information with third parties when we have your consent to do so. For example, if you win a contest, we may publicly post some of your information on the contest page with your permission. The scope of consent will be explained when consent is requested.

Aggregate Information: We may share aggregate statistics and demographics information about users of our Services with third parties like content partners, advertisers, and sponsors. This is not considered personal information subject to this privacy policy as it does not identify any individual.

Ad Technology Providers

We work with third party advertising technology providers to show you ads on our Services and elsewhere online. These companies may collect and use personal information about you to provide advertising services to us and others. They act as our service providers and are obligated not to share or use your personal information for any other purpose.

We may also integrate beacons, software development kits (SDKs), and other technologies provided by third party analytics services companies into our apps and Services to collect information regarding app installs and usage.

Third-Party Links and Content

The Services may contain links to websites, mobile applications, and other services maintained by third parties like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. These links are provided as a convenience and do not imply endorsement of the linked services or the content, products, or services offered on those sites.

We don’t control third party sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policies on those sites to learn about their privacy practices.

Our Services may offer social sharing features and other tools that let you connect your Bones & Chews account with accounts on various third-party services. If you take advantage of these features, we will access information from those third-party accounts. The third-party services will authenticate your credentials and provide us with access to certain information that you have provided permission to share according to your privacy settings with that service. We will use information we receive in accordance with this privacy policy. The data we have access to varies by third-party service and depends on your privacy settings with that provider. You should always review, and if necessary, adjust your privacy settings on third-party websites and services before connecting with us.

Security

While no online service can guarantee absolute security, we take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to safeguard your personal information against loss, theft and unauthorized access, use, modification and disclosure.

We store personal information on computer systems that have limited access and are in controlled facilities. Our servers are enabled with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to prevent unauthorized parties from viewing personal information transmitted to our Sites.

While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of that information during transmission to or from our Services. Any transmission of information is at your own risk. We urge you to take steps to keep your personal information safe, such as choosing a strong password and keeping it private, as well as logging out of your user account, and closing your web browser when finished using the Services on a shared or unsecured device.

Your Choices & Rights

Marketing Communications: You can control whether you receive marketing and non-transactional communications from Bones & Chews. If you don’t want to receive marketing emails from us, simply click the “unsubscribe” link included at the bottom of each marketing email you receive. Keep in mind you may still receive transactional and informational emails regarding the Services. You can also adjust your communication preferences in your account settings if you have a Bones & Chews account.

Access Rights: In some jurisdictions, applicable law may entitle you to request copies of personal information we hold about you, request corrections or deletions, and more. If you wish to request access, correction, deletion of your information, or exercise other legal rights under applicable law, please contact us using the information below. While we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your requests, we may also reject requests that jeopardize the privacy of others, are extremely impractical, or otherwise not required by applicable law.

If you are a California resident and would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us as described in the Contact Us section below.

Do Not Track Settings: At this time, Bones & Chews does not respond to browser ‘Do Not Track’ signals because we do not track users across third party websites to provide targeted advertising. However, some third party sites do keep track of your browsing activities across websites, applications, and online services. For these third-party sites and services, if you wish to prevent such tracking, you will need to review and adjust your privacy settings on each site and service you use.

Retention

We will retain your personal information as long as necessary to provide the Services to you, to perform our contractual obligations, to enforce our agreements, for fraud detection and prevention, and to comply with applicable law. We may also retain aggregate information beyond this time for research purposes and to help improve our Services. Where permitted by applicable law, we may retain some or all of your information after account deletion or closure for uses consistent with this policy. The criteria used to determine retention periods include, for example:

  • How long is the information needed to provide the Services and operate our business? This includes such things as maintaining and improving the performance of the Services, keeping our systems secure, and maintaining appropriate business and financial records. This is the general rule that establishes the baseline for most data retention periods.
  • Is the information sensitive? If so, retention period may be minimized.
  • Have you provided consent for a longer retention period? For example, if you participate in research studies.
  • Are we subject to a legal, contractual, or similar obligation to retain data? Examples can include mandatory data retention laws, government orders that require data to be preserved, or contracts that require us to retain data for a specified period of time.
  • Has the information been aggregated or anonymized so that you can’t be identified directly? If so, we may use & retain that information for any legitimate business need.

If you submit content to be included in one of our custom products, we will make good faith efforts to remove that content from our systems after completion of any orders relating to that content, unless you consent to longer retention. However, you acknowledge that third parties may have retained copies of that content outside of our reasonable control.

International Data Transfers

Bones & Chews has operations in the United States. The laws of the country where your personal information is processed may not provide standards of protection equivalent to the laws in your home country.

We transfer personal information globally to respond to your needs as they arise. By using our Services, you acknowledge that your personal information will be transferred to our facilities and those third parties with whom we share it as described in this Policy.

Where required by law, we rely on legally appropriate mechanisms to permit transfers of personal information across borders. Certain countries outside the US have been deemed to provide adequate data protection by the European Commission or otherwise under applicable European Union data protection law. For transfers from the European Economic Area (EEA) to countries not considered adequate by the European Commission, we have put in place adequate measures, such as standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission to protect your personal information. You may obtain a copy of these measures by contacting us as described below. Transfers to countries not considered adequate by the European Commission will be made in compliance with applicable laws.

Children’s Privacy

Our Services are intended for a general audience and not directed to children under the age of 16. Subject to applicable law, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 without parental consent. If we become aware that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us as specified below.

Changes to this Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make material changes to this policy, we may notify you on our Site or via email. We will also update the ‘Last Updated’ date at the beginning of this Privacy Policy. Any changes will become effective when posted unless indicated otherwise.
