We are a family-owned business dedicated to providing premium bully sticks, jerky treats, and other natural chews for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Our founder, John Smith, started Bones & Chews® in his garage in 2005 after struggling to find healthy, long-lasting chews for his own beloved pitbull, Rex.
John saw how much Rex loved bully sticks but was concerned about sourcing them ethically. He began researching bully stick production and decided to launch his own small business to provide high-quality bully sticks and other natural chews to pet parents who wanted the best for their dogs.
Our Story
After getting great feedback from friends and neighbors about the bully sticks John was making in his garage, he knew he was onto something. He rented a small warehouse space and brought on his brother, Mark, and sister, Elizabeth, to help hand-make bully sticks using a special technique John had perfected.
The orders kept flooding in and soon their warehouse was bursting at the seams. In 2007, Bones & Chews® moved into a larger facility and bought new equipment to keep up with demand. Through word of mouth, trade shows, and online sales, their reputation for incredible bully sticks spread nationwide.
In 2010, John, Mark, and Elizabeth realized they wanted to offer more varieties of long-lasting, tasty chews. They worked directly with ranchers in the USA and South America to source high-quality beef for jerky treats and other chews. Bones & Chews® also began developing its own unique recipes using real whole food ingredients.
Over the past 15 years, Bones & Chews® has become one of the most trusted brands in the natural dog chew industry. We only use free-range, grass-fed beef. Our bully sticks come from free-roaming cattle raised humanely on open pastures in the U.S. and South America. This beef is higher in nutrients and better tasting.
Our chews are carefully cooked or dried. We use proprietary cooking and drying techniques to naturally preserve our chews without chemicals or preservatives. This retains more flavor and nutrition.
We stick to all-natural ingredients. You’ll never find artificial flavors, colors, or fillers in our chews. We thoughtfully craft recipes using real foods like sweet potatoes, turmeric, oats, maple syrup, and more.
We rigorously test for safety. All our chews undergo extensive in-house safety testing as well as third party testing for pathogens, bacteria, heavy metals, and other contaminants.

Our bully sticks deserve a special mention because offering premium, hand-crafted bully sticks was Bones & Chews’® original purpose. We’re proud to have raised the bar on bully stick quality while staying true to time-honored traditions.
What are bully sticks? Bully sticks are 100% beef chews made from bull pizzles (a bull’s penis). They are extremely thick, long-lasting natural chews perfect for avid chewers.
Why dogs love them: Their beef flavor and odors are irresistible to dogs. As bull pizzles are high in protein, they satisfy dogs’ urge to chew for long periods. They promote dental health by scraping away plaque and tartar as dogs gnaw.
Our advantage: Our bully sticks come from pasture-raised bulls and are slow-roasted or dried to lock in more flavor. We hand-stretch them to increase thickness and density, making them last even longer. They have no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives added.
Safety: Our bully sticks are rigorously tested to ensure they are pathogen-free with no harmful bacteria like salmonella or e.coli. We also test for heavy metals and use USDA-approved facilities.
